Kazumi Muto – Japanese Koto Artist
Biography
Kazumi Muto began playing the koto in her first year of high school as a member of the school’s koto club, where she won a national competition. After graduating, she continued performing as an amateur musician. In 2024, she was invited to perform koto music as part of the artistic direction for a pole dance production, which led her to begin her professional career in earnest.
She now also practices pole dancing and is developing a new performance style as a “pole dancer who plays the koto.” By blending the traditional sound of Japanese koto with the expressive physicality of pole dance, she is pursuing a unique and original form of performance.
