About the event
🎭 Dodoitsu Live Show in Kyoto – Where Beats and Words Collide
Step into the cultural soul of Kyoto’s Gion district, just steps from Yasaka Shrine, and experience a one-of-a-kind live performance blending humor, rhythm, and tradition.
Meet Sakaya Marokichi, a modern-day storyteller and percussionist who revives the Edo-period art of Dodoitsu — a poetic form with a 7-7-7-5 syllable rhythm, infused with wit and emotion. His unique style fuses traditional Japanese drumming, jazz grooves, and street culture, crafting a vibrant and unexpected performance.
Accompanied by Minori, a soulful vocalist and pianist whose melodies ripple through classical, jazz, and pop, the duo weaves a rich musical narrative that’s both nostalgic and strikingly fresh.
Set against the atmospheric backdrop of Kyoto’s historic alleys, this show invites you to witness the elegance, depth, and evolution of Japanese culture — all in one unforgettable evening.
🎟 Limited seats. Don’t miss this rare cultural gem.
